Next up in our new Q&A series is one of the show’s founding exhibitors – Middleby UK.  Here’s sales director Kenny Smith talking about some of the products they’ll be promoting at the show in June.

Tell us about your exhibiting experience at Commercial Kitchen 2016?

Commercial Kitchen was a great success and we were very pleased that the quality of visitor matched the quality of exhibitor.  We’re looking forward to creating even more exciting opportunities with key buyers and decision makers this year.

What key foodservice trends do you think will impact the commercial kitchen industry in the coming years?

The fast food trend continues to grow within the industry but the demand for quality is higher than ever.  Rapid cooking allows us to get fresh product to the consumer – and quickly!!

Pop up restaurants are also on the increase and the caterer needs flexibility in the products they buy.  The person on the street is looking for something different, an experience, but still demanding higher standards.

What are you most looking forward to about the show?

Introducing our portfolio to a variety of key people, from the distributor network, to people in purchasing to the executive chefs and more.  Regardless of operation, we have products to suit them all.

I am very keen to see how the show has grown after a very successful first year and networking with as many visitors as possible.  There are other marketing avenues available but nothing beats the face to face opportunities that a good trade show can offer.

What key questions should buyers be asking vendors when looking for new products at the show?
  • What makes you better than your competition?
  • What levels of service do you provide?
  • What experience have you had dealing with my type of organisation?
What’s your current bestseller?

Our Turbochef Sota (also known as the i1) has recently been rolled out by Greggs in the UK and you will also see this oven throughout Starbucks coffee shops as well.  It is by far the most popular of all the Turbochef models and we now have the added benefit of it being available with a standard 13amp plug, as well as its 27amp and 3 phase versions that it, and the rest of the range, boasts.

The Pitco brand carries on growing and our Solstice Gas fryer (SG14) continues to knock all its competition for six.  Last year saw record sales for our Magikitch’n chrome griddles, and it is wonderful to watch successful customers like Five Guys and Byron Burger growing while using our dependable equipment.

With the widest series of combination ovens on the market, the range from our Danish brand Hounö is immense but the products we are seeing most success with are the space saving Combislims.  These are available in three sizes but the most popular model is the six grid CPE1.06.  At only 513mm wide, these units offer combination cooking where it may previously not have been possible due to space restrictions.  The Combislims still carry the ‘Hounö Care’ 4 year warranty package, which is included with the standard range of ovens as well.

Any new products you’d like to highlight?

With ventless cooking ever on the increase, we are showing our fully automated frying system, the Perfect Fry.  Although this is not a new product for Middleby UK, it is definitely our best kept secret.  With integral fire suppression and ventless hood, this front loading unit offers odourless frying while it still has a small footprint and is easy to clean.  A must see for those with restricted ventilation in their establishments.  We will be exhibiting the PFA7201 on our stand.

Middleby UK is exhibiting on stand H2.
